Hides to be sent should be fleshed of all larger fat and meat and thoroughly salted with fine salt (not rock salt). Hides are best salted on an incline to allow moisture to drain away. A hide that will be tanned with the hair on should be salted as soon as possible. Salt acts to kill the bacteria and set the hair.
